When and how did you start playing volleyball?
I got started playing volleyball at 16, the summer before my junior year in high school. I used to surf all the time till one day my mom got mad at me for missing class and sold my surfboard. After that I started hanging out with my friends that played beach volleyball. I tried out for the varsity team and made it. Before I knew it I was living the dream and competing professionally.
What is your playing background?
2 years high school and junior college
Earned AAA ranking when I was 20
3 time Budlight National Champion
2 time Jose Cuervo National Champion
9 years on the AVP tour
Corona Extra 2004 King of the Beach
EVP Tour 2004 Player of the Year
Where are some of the places you have traveled to play
Domestic: California, Arizona, Texas, Michigan, Chicago, Minnesota, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Virginia, Boston, Maine, New Mexico, Alabama, New Orleans, Florida and Rhode Island.
International: Cayman Islands, Saint Thomas V.I., Curacao, Mexico, El Salvador, New Zealand and Canada.
What attracted you to the EVP Tour?
What attracted me was the competitive, fun and professional environment without the politics that other tours have.
What is your most memorable moment on tour so far?
My most memorable moment is becoming the 2004 player of the year.
What are your favorite foods, music, books?
My favorite food is Hawaiian fried chicken, sushi, strawberry cheese cake, etc….depends on my mood.
My favorite music is classic rock, punk….like pennywise ect, Hawaiian, some rap, hip hop, R&B, disco, reggae and some country.
What is your favorite thing to do besides volleyball?
My favorite things to do are surfing, camping hanging out with friends on a sunny afternoon, working out, snow skiing, traveling and playing ball with my 6 year old son Kealii.
Why is recycling 70% of your waste so important?
We need to take care of our oceans, forests, desert and air….. protect our environment!!!
